Your home is one of the biggest investments you'll ever make. At The Rivertown Agency in Columbus, Georgia, we’re here to help you protect it with affordable and reliable homeowners insurance. Whether you live in Georgia or Alabama, we’ll make sure your home and belongings are properly covered—without overpaying.

What is Home Insurance?

Homeowners insurance is a policy that protects your home, belongings, and finances in case of unexpected damage or accidents. Also known as hazard insurance, it helps cover things like repairs, replacements, and even legal costs if someone is hurt on your property.

Typical Home Insurance Coverages

Dwelling Coverage (Coverage A)

  • This helps pay to rebuild or repair your house if it’s damaged by a covered event like fire, wind, or hail. It doesn’t cover the land itself—just the structure.

Other Structures (Coverage B)

  • This covers things like a detached garage, shed, fence, or any other building on your property that’s not attached to your home.

Personal Property (Coverage C)

  • Your clothes, furniture, electronics, and other belongings are protected if they’re stolen or damaged. Coverage limits apply for certain items like jewelry, guns, or cash, but we can help you customize this.

Loss of Use (Coverage D)

  • If your home is damaged and you can't live in it, this helps pay for a hotel or temporary rental and other living expenses while it’s being repaired.

Personal Liability (Coverage E)

  • Covers damages which the insured is legally liable for and provides a legal defense at the insurer's own expense.

Additional Coverages

This may include things like:

  • Debris removal

  • Fire department service charges

  • Tree or landscaping damage

  • Identity theft

  • Minor repairs

  • Water back-up Coverage from septic/sewage

  • Additional Mold Coverage

  • Jewlery scheduled for proper coverage

  • Fine china scheduled for proper coverage

  • Gun schedued for proper coverage

We'll help you tailor your policy to meet your specific needs.

What Isn’t Covered?

Standard homeowners insurance usually does NOT cover:

  • Flood- rising waters or water coming in from outside the house from weather events

  • Earthquakes or earth movement

  • Full replacement of jewelry, china, or guns

  • Mold from long-term leaks

  • Damage due to neglect or poor maintenance

  • War or nuclear risks

  • Septic/sewage pipe backups

  • Termite damage

All these incidents typically require extra coverages added to the policy or a separate insurance policy. We can help you navigate coverages to make sure you are covered.

Flood insurance can be added separately through the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP) or private insurers—we’ll walk you through that if needed.

Earthquake or earth movement coverage can be added through a separate policy. We can help you navigate the coverage you need.
